The windows
boot disk has a .cab file with compressed files it it that do many cool
functions. These files however for some reason do not always run from
the "A" prompt like they were ment to. So, sometimes it
becomes necessary to extract the files from the .cab file back to the
floppy disk to run them.
To do this boot to the boot disk, you will get to an "A"
prompt then type "extract ebd.cab filename a:" with out the quotations
and substitute filename with the file you want to extract.
What are the files in the ebd.cab directioy?
The files that are in the ebd.cab directory are:
chkdsk.exe
debug.exe
edit.com
scandisk.exe
scandisk.ini
sys.com
mscdex.exe
ext.exe
attrib.exe
format.com
restart.com
help.bat The most
common files that you should have to extract are debug.exe and
format.com however if you are using a NTFS partition you may have to
extract chkdsk.exe to run it. It basically does the same thing that
scandisk does on a fat partition. |
